My 'Masterpiece'
We went to the National Gallery for our learning journey .I was marvel at the paintings there. Every work was very delicate. Here are the three of them that I love best.
This is the work of Lim Yew Kuang. I choose this one because it reveals something in the society in 1950s.The name of the painting is Searching .Then naturally, we want to ask,'What is he searching for?'
The man who holds a candle in his hand is ragged and barefoot. It is obvious that he is the one who is searching for something. However, the people besides him seem to be hostile .Their faces are crumpled, and even the dog is barking at the man.We can see that the man who is close to us is counting the money in his hands. The greedy expression on his face makes me nauseous.
We can feel that it is a society of greed, money and desire. Now it is clear that the man who is a labourer is searching for equality and justice. This is a very sarcastic and ironic painting and it reveals the situation of the working class in Singapore at that time.
This one is my favourite .It describes the beautiful landscape in Vietnam .It was painted on the silk .What makes it special is that the painter combined the traditional skills in Vietnam with the western painting skills.
The painting reminded me of China. It has the similar scenery to Sichuan province. The gauze over the river is so dimly discernible. The mountains ,the river , the little boat and the ferryman all reminded me of the significant scenery in China. The sinuous, huge, antique and sacred mountain seems to tell a story ....
My thought was wandering in the painting when I watched it.
This one is called War and Peace. Two fighters, who look like just going through a war, are watching the mountain far away. The tattered clothes and the wounds on their bodies reveal the torture they endured .This painting shows the wish that war will never break out again. It reveals a desire of peace. It was painted during the Indonesia's War of Independence by Hendra Gunawan.
I have learned a lot from the paintings, especially history. The paintings revealed many sides that we could not see .That was really educational.
